Hindi Bible Study App ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account using Google OAuth, we collect:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Profile picture

After signing in, we also ask you to provide a phone number. We ask only for an Indian mobile number, and it is required to use the signed-in features of the app. You can change it at any time from your profile. We do not verify the number, and we do not share it with anyone. If you would rather not provide one, you can sign out and continue reading. Browsing articles, listening to audio, and the daily verse never require an account.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you use our app:

  • Articles you read and bookmark
  • Comments you post on articles
  • Audio playback history
  • App usage statistics

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain our service
  • Personalize your experience
  • Save your bookmarks and reading preferences
  • Contact you about the service using the number you provided
  • Display your comments on articles (your name and profile picture will be visible to other users)
  • Improve our app and content
  • Send you important updates about the app

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Convex, a trusted cloud database provider. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information.

Third-Party Services

These services handle information about you or your device:

  • Google OAuth: For signing in with your Google account
  • Convex: For our database and backend, where your account, phone number, bookmarks and comments are stored
  • Expo push notification service: For delivering notifications. It receives a push token that identifies your device, not your account
  • Google AI (Gemini): For search by meaning. The words you type into search are sent to Google to be matched against articles, and are not stored with your account
  • YouTube: For videos embedded in some articles. Playing one loads YouTube's player, which is covered by Google's privacy policy

These services receive article or Bible content, or serve files to your device, but are not given your account information:

  • Cloudflare R2: For storing and serving article audio and thumbnails
  • Text-to-speech providers: MiniMax, Sarvam, Cartesia, Inworld, ElevenLabs and Google Cloud narrate articles from their text. ElevenLabs also aligns the narration with the text so words can be highlighted as they are spoken
  • Free Use Bible API (bible.helloao.org): For Bible chapters and verses, fetched by the app as you read
  • Unsplash: For the photograph behind the Verse of the Day, loaded by the app

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request correction of your data
  • Request deletion of your account
  • Opt-out of communications

Children's Privacy

Our app is intended for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
